Recent directives from HM Treasury have significantly tightened the criteria for public funding. There are greater restrictions on both eligibility (who can get Legal Aid) and scope (what sort of problems are covered by Legal Aid). If you telephone and explain your problem to one of our solicitors, he or she will ask several questions about your circumstances and will be able to tell you then and there whether you qualify.
Get a bilingual friend or family member to make the initial telephone call on your behalf and accompany you to the first interview. If it is a case where Legal Aid has been granted, professional interpreters will be supplied after that.
Crime, personal injury, debt, immigration, employment and mental health. If you need the help of a solicitor for problems in any of these areas, consult the Law Society website: www.lawsociety.org.uk. They list firms according to the type of work they do.
